After "Garbage Collection" (2021) this is my second book with the wonderful Irish publisher Redfoxpress.
As sleeplessness became the subject of my earlier album "Songs of Little Sleep" (jaapblonk.bandcamp.com/album/songs-of-little-sleep) the collection of images "Somnambulisms" was inspired by another nightly inconvenience: I am a notorious sleepwalker.
Several times it happened to me, in hotels, that I found myself in the hallway outside my room without the key and was forced, stark naked, to make the humiliating descent to the reception in order to get access to the room again. Not to mention the occasions when private people were so kind to host me, whom I then upset by my nightly roamings, of which I remembered nothing the next morning.
As opposed to my earlier Redfoxpress book "Garbage Collection", this one contains nothing digital: it's all handmade. I used various pens, inks, paints, pastel and charcoal.
In each drawing among the various image elements you can see some of my signature asemic scribbles.
